Los Santos Career Fair: A Day of Engagement and Insight into the World of Public Service
###
Today, officers and staff from the San Andreas Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (SADCR) participated in a vibrant career fair, hosted by the Los Santos County Sheriff’s Department (LSSD). The event aimed to foster engagement, education, and provide transparency into the field of public service with representatives from multiple public service agencies in the area. SADCR representatives were present to offer attendees a rare glimpse into the critical role the department plays in maintaining public safety, promoting rehabilitation, and supporting community reintegration.

Correctional Officer Grant Armstrong, who assisted in organizing the department’s participation in the event, worked to ensure meaningful engagement with visitors. His dedication to bridging the gap between the department and the community was evident as he interacted with attendees, answering questions, and sharing insights into the SADCR’s mission.

Associate Warden George Dixon provided valuable expertise, speaking on the evolving mission of the SADCR. His address highlighted the department’s efforts to balance correctional oversight with the humane treatment of inmates. “Our primary goal is to ensure that our facilities are places where change is possible. Rehabilitation is critical, not only for inmates but for the safety and well-being of our communities,” he remarked. His presence underscored the department’s commitment to operational excellence and long-term vision.

Correctional Captain Chase Cantrell also contributed to the event, offering his leadership and operational experience. He discussed day-to-day correctional management, safety protocols, and the importance of officer training. His open dialogue with attendees demystified the complexities of managing correctional facilities and emphasized the vital role officers play in maintaining both public safety and institutional order.

A standout moment of the day was the engagement with Correctional Officer Henry Callahan, who shared his unique perspective as part of the Division of Adult Parole Operations (DAPO) and the Office of Peace Officer Selection and Employee Development. Callahan’s dual role in helping parolees reintegrate into society, while also recruiting and mentoring future officers, highlighted his crucial contributions to the department. “I’m passionate about ensuring that those who leave our care have a chance to rebuild their lives, while also helping shape the future of our department by selecting and guiding new recruits,” Callahan shared during a panel discussion.

The career fair featured a variety of educational booths from our department that allowed visitors to explore the multifaceted nature of correctional work. From demonstrations on security protocols to rehabilitation programs, attendees gained valuable insights into the diverse aspects of the department’s mission. Interactive displays and workshops offered a hands-on look at the challenges and rewards of working within corrections.

One particularly engaging booth showcased the department’s recruitment and training processes. Managed by members of the Office of Peace Officer Selection and Employee Development, this booth gave potential recruits a clear understanding of the physical and mental preparation required to succeed in the field. Officer Callahan’s involvement here was especially impactful, as he shared his dual experiences in recruitment and parole, encouraging prospective candidates to explore careers in corrections.

Throughout the day, the sense of community was palpable. Families, students, and local officials attended, each gaining valuable insight into the vital work carried out by the SADCR and other public service entities in the Los Santos area. The event fostered open dialogue between officers and the public, promoting a greater understanding of the correctional officers’ role in maintaining safety and order.

Associate Warden Dixon closed the event with a heartfelt message, expressing gratitude to both the community and our partner agencies for their support and to the officers for their unwavering dedication. “Today’s event highlights the strength of our community and the importance of the work we do. Together, we are building a safer and brighter future for San Andreas,” he concluded.

With future events planned, the SADCR continues to demonstrate its commitment to transparency, engagement, and excellence in the field of corrections.
